Jim & Geri in Britain

Great Britain
Day 20 - Tuesday, 27 May 1997

Woodville House B&B

Tuesday morning we caught a cab to the train station. Mike and Sue Felton, a couple that we had met earlier were also there to catch the train. They live about 15 miles from us. At 10:00 a.m. we climbed aboard and headed for London. It seemed a little odd to leave our car behind. It was like entering into a new adventure. We gazed out the windows at our last view of the English countryside as it whizzed past at over 100 mph. We left the train at Kings Cross station on the northeast side of London. Here we re-entered a thoroughly modern today.

Woodville House

We bought tickets and rode the underground to Victoria Station, climbed up to the street and headed for our B&B about 3 blocks away. We were carrying our luggage that had become a little heavier than when we began because of T-shirts and tourist guide books. Jim had the wrong address in mind so we walked about a block too far. But we survived the walk and were welcomed into Woodville House B&B by our hostess Rachel Joplin. The door with the awning is the entrance to our B&B.

Our bedroom window looked out on a lovely yard, and the bathroom is only a short walk down the hall. Sharing a bath with other guests means sometimes having to wait to get our morning shower, but it is a minor inconvenience. At £60 ($100) a night the place was a steal in London. It's only 3 blocks from Victoria Station and a block and half from the bus that goes to Heathrow. There is an ATM less than a block away.

Leaving our belongings safely in the room, we caught a hop-on hop-off tour for a two-hour bus-top view of London. The ticket was good for 24 hours, so we used the same service the following day to visit some of the places we glimpsed along our route.
