Camera 2 is a Canon ZR500 camcorder. It is very cheap and has a 25x optical zoom which makes for a very flexible webcam (but it's a so-so camcorder). The camera is mounted on a tripod about two feet from the window box. The video signal from the camera is fed directly to the computer with a IEEE1394 cable. A program called VisionGS monitors the incoming signal looking for motion in the picture. When motion is detected it uploads a new picture to the web server. A new picture can be uploaded as often as roughly every 20 seconds. |
